Women in Animation’s Vancouver Chapter (WIA Vancouver), a non-profit organization in the global animation industry, is in its third iteration of the ACE (Animation Career EXCELerator) Program, with Netflix Canada as the premier sponsor. The program is designed to advance the careers of women in the animation industry by giving them a key credit in the creation of their very own project.

Working on a completely original animated short film that will be submitted to festivals around the world, the ACE 3 team are looking for part-time freelance artists for the following positions: 

PRODUCTION MANAGER

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create departmental schedules as required by producer

  • Provide updates, priorities, schedules, and status of all assets and shots to artists, production and leadership

  • Checking invoices against approved footage in Shotgrid (incl. checking the math)

  • Ensure Shotgrid statuses and task assignments are updated and maintained.

  • Sending out playlists (asset review, shot review) to the teams and add notes to the respective items

  • Coordinate and package shot/asset deliveries including submission documentation.

  • Ensure team members are clear on objectives and act as an I/O coordinator for deliveries, if needed

  • Ensure effective communication and timely updates

  • Document decisions and requests, and ensure items are tracked and managed appropriately. Be pro-active in communicating solutions and concerns to Producer

  • Communicate any schedule changes to the Producer and escalate to Executive Producers as required.

  • Ensure work is being approved, completed on time and to specifications.

  • Take notes at production and other meetings as decided by Producer and distribute notes

  • Create and maintain a crew list

  • Create and update production report

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • At least 1 year experience working in animation production

  • Possesses strong knowledge of the 2D pipeline

  • Strong knowledge of Shotgrid  

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • A great attitude! 

  • Currently a permanent resident or citizen of Canada

STORYBOARD ARTIST

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with Storyboard Supervisor to follow style and objective of storyboards 

  • Pitching sequence and panels 

  • Creating storyboard using Storyboard Pro

  • Work autonomously to meet deadlines created by the Storyboard Supervisor

  • Use naming conventions provided

  • Provide revisions

  • Experience storyboarding for animation 

  • Ability to take direction

  • A great attitude! 

  • Passionate about working in animation and building their portfolio

  • Currently a permanent resident or citizen of Canada

CHARACTER AND PROP DESIGNER

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take on notes from the art director and director and make any revisions needed

  • Create character turnarounds and expressions from existing approved designs

  • Design characters and/or props (sketches through final line and colour) for a 2D animated production as needed

  • Work within the style guide and colour script and provide a finished, clean and coloured design

  • Work efficiently and within the established workflow

  • Participate in department meetings as required

  • Meet deadlines as assigned by production

  • Share ideas, collaborate and work closely with all members of the design team

  • Use naming conventions provided

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience with illustration and 2D character and/or prop designs

  • Strong visual skills and attention to detail

  • Strong drawing skills and sense of design, character, and composition

  • Ability to take direction and work independently

  • A great attitude and a team player

  • Passionate about working in animation and building their portfolio

  • Confidence with Adobe Photoshop

  • Currently a permanent resident or citizen of Canada

  • Design BG keys locations (Design through final colour) for 2D animated production

  • Work efficiently and within the established workflow

  • Participate in department meetings as required

  • Meet deadlines as assigned by production

  • Share ideas, collaborate and work closely with all members of the design team

  • Use naming conventions provided

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience with background designing in animation 

  • Strong visual skills and attention to detail

  • Strong drawing skills and sense of design, character, and composition

  • Ability to take direction and work independently

  • A great attitude and a team player

  • Passionate about working in animation and building their portfolio

  • Confidence with Adobe Photoshop

  • Currently a permanent resident or citizen of Canada

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, teach, and guide a small team of Harmony Build Artists to create the assigned style for builds

  • Work efficiently and establish a workflow with the Animation Director

  • Participate in department meetings as required

  • Meet deadlines as assigned by production

  • Share ideas, collaborate and work closely with all members of the design team

  • Innovate creative solutions to troubleshoot problems

  • Strong proficiency using Toonboom Harmony

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Strong visual skills and attention to detail

  • Flexible, enthusiastic and willing to lead and teach others within your team

  • A great attitude and a team player

  • Passionate about working in animation and building their portfolio and experience

  • Currently a permanent resident or citizen of Canada
