Women in Animation’s Vancouver Chapter (WIA Vancouver), a non-profit organization in the global animation industry, is in its third iteration of the ACE (Animation Career EXCELerator) Program, with Netflix Canada as the premier sponsor. The program is designed to advance the careers of women in the animation industry by giving them a key credit in the creation of their very own project.

Working on a completely original animated short film that will be submitted to festivals around the world, the ACE 3 team are looking for part-time freelance artists for the following positions: 

 

SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT COORDINATOR

We’re looking for a talented outgoing social media content coordinator to create and scale our existing strong online presence. The role is primarily social content creation supervised by the ACE Associate Producer and community engagement across our preferred social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin).

  

Responsibilities:

The Social Media Content Coordinator will aid in the development of communications material to support the programs and operations of the WIA ACE program, including multimedia social media content. This includes creating, scheduling, monitoring, and posting content to our social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn). 

 

The Role & Expectations 

  • Curate a Monthly Content Calendar for the WIA ACE program.

  • Social Media Asset Creation - Create assets from ideation to creation.

  • Ensure sponsors are accurately tagged and credited, when applicable.

  • Review social platform analytics regularly to ensure the digital goals are met.

  • Community Management - Monitoring and responding to messages.

  • Create relevant and timely content to post - 2-3 times per week for Instagram and Facebook, 5-7 per month for LinkedIn.

  • Provide quarterly reporting on social media to ACE Program Executive Producers and sponsors.

  • This is an appr. 10hours/month paid position

 

What you bring:

  • You can demonstrate your experience of growing social media communities be it with other brands or your personal channels.

  • Have basic skills and experience with Canva or a similar photo/graphic editor.

  • Must have great communication skills and good grammar.

2D HARMONY ANIMATION ARTIST

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work from storyboard/animatic to create animation sequences assigned by the Animation Director 

  • Animate in a team environment on a sequence of shots

  • Block movements in rough animation, refine and polish to completion in final animation

  • Ability to accept and incorporate notes and feedback as requested and complete any revision notes until the animation is approved

  • Meet deadlines as assigned by Animation Director and Production 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • At least 6 months experience working as an animator 

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of performance, posing, timing, weight, balance and form 

  • Knowledge and experience using Harmony

  • Knowledge and experience with traditional animation is desirable, but not essential

  • Strong written/verbal communication skills

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively 

  • A great attitude!

  • Passion for working on new, creative animated content 

  • Currently a permanent resident or citizen of Canada

LAYOUT SUPERVISOR

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and guide a small team of 2D BG Layout Artists and manage goals and milestones

  • Interpret animatic to create background layouts for a 2D animated short film

  • Ensure all background layouts are drawn correct in perspective, scale and style of the short film

  • Providing clear and concise direction, offering adjustments and clarifications to the team as needed

  • Meet deadlines as assigned by the Art Director and Production

  • Share ideas, problem solve, collaborate and work closely with all members of the production team

  • Ability to accept and incorporate notes and feedback as requested


 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • At least 6 months experience working as a BG layout artist on a 2D production

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of scene composition and environments

  • Knowledge and experience using Photoshop

  • Familiarity with the 2D pipeline

  • Strong written/verbal communication skills

  • Strong knowledge in art and design 

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively 

  • A great attitude!

  • Passion for working on new, creative animated content 

  • Currently a permanent resident or citizen of Canada

PROP DESIGNER

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take on notes from the art director and director and make any revisions needed

  • Create turnarounds and expressions from existing approved designs

  • Design props (sketches through final line and colour) for a 2D animated production as needed

  • Work within the style guide and colour script and provide a finished, clean and coloured design

  • Work efficiently and within the established workflow

  • Participate in department meetings as required

  • Meet deadlines as assigned by production

  • Share ideas, collaborate and work closely with all members of the design team

  • Use naming conventions provided

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience with illustration and 2D character and/or prop designs

  • Strong visual skills and attention to detail

  • Strong drawing skills and sense of design, character, and composition

  • Ability to take direction and work independently

  • A great attitude and a team player

  • Passionate about working in animation and building their portfolio

  • Confidence with Adobe Photoshop

  • Currently a permanent resident or citizen of Canada

  • Design BG keys locations (Design through final colour) for 2D animated production

  • Work efficiently and within the established workflow

  • Participate in department meetings as required

  • Meet deadlines as assigned by production

  • Share ideas, collaborate and work closely with all members of the design team

  • Use naming conventions provided

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience with background designing in animation 

  • Strong visual skills and attention to detail

  • Strong drawing skills and sense of design, character, and composition

  • Ability to take direction and work independently

  • A great attitude and a team player

  • Passionate about working in animation and building their portfolio

  • Confidence with Adobe Photoshop

  • Currently a permanent resident or citizen of Canada

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with and take direction from the Builds Supervisor to create and revise characters and prop builds

  • Innovate creative solutions to troubleshoot problems

  • Create efficient builds for animation

  • Experience using Toonboom Harmony as a builds artist

  • Strong visual skills and attention to detail

  • Flexible, enthusiastic and willing to learn  

  • A great attitude and a team player

  • Passionate about working in animation and building their portfolio and experience
